Let’s just start here: no one has ever guilted or shamed their way to better health.

Not once. Not ever. And yet that’s basically been the wellness industry’s whole business model.

This episode is the antidote to that.

I’m talking with Courtney Townley, health coach, author of The Consistency Code, and host of the Grace and Grit podcast, and we got into all of it. Not the plan. Not the protocol. The actual stuff underneath that nobody wants to talk about.

You’re not inconsistent. You’re outsourcing your life.

We hire experts and then just hand them the wheel. Courtney is not anti-expert. She’ll be the first to tell you healing is a team sport. But she’ll also be the first to tell you that no coach, no trainer, no nutritionist understands the wholeness of your life. That part is yours.

The question she keeps coming back to: based on what I know about myself right now, does this actually make sense for my life? A lot of times the answer is no. And being honest about that is where it starts.

Consistency doesn’t mean what you think it means.

It’s not three days a week, 45 minutes, forever. Courtney calls it consistent self-honoring. Your self-care looks different depending on what you’ve actually got to give that day. Some days you go heavy. Some days you take the walk. Both count.

Getting out of all-or-nothing thinking is the whole game.

Grace vs. excuse. Here’s how to tell the difference.

Two questions. How do you feel on the other side? An excuse comes with that low-grade friction. You know your reasons and you don’t like them. Grace feels settled.

And: does it keep you spinning, or does it help you pull back so you can push forward again? That’s the real test.

Health is the unbecoming.

This is the part I haven’t stopped thinking about.

We were talking about worthiness. About how nobody looks at a room full of babies and points to the one that isn’t worthy. And yet here we are, walking around like we’re the exception.

Courtney said it simply: so much of health is unbecoming the beliefs that were never yours. The conditioning. The stories. The self-soothing you had to do to survive stuff that wasn’t even your fault.

You are not building a new person. You are peeling back everything that got piled on top of the one who was already there.

That’s the work. And it’s worth doing.
